Digital Auto Tracking keeps the rotary playback heads in sync with the recorded tracks. It adjusts itself so you don't have to. For those who recently smashed an old VCR just to get rid of the flashing 12: 00, the SLV-N51 includes auto clock set, which uses a clock signal from your local PBS station. Other features include auto head cleaning and a one-hour timer backup, which will save your clock settings and program information in the event of a power failure. I had one that died and ordered this same one. Works well and happy to finally get it.

For many years, my old Sony VHS VCR had been dying. It finally gave up the ghost immediately after I watched my tape of Disney's "Sleeping Beauty," with the tape jammed inside, undamaged but unable to eject.
Not having a working VCR was not an option: too much of my library is on VHS tape.
Repair would not have been cost-effective, and neither would any of the tiny handful of new VHS VCRs still on the market. The only cost-effective solution was a refurbished unit, and I have a strong preference for Sony.
Porter Electronics was able to supply a replacement, at as good a price as I've seen. While it is certainly not a brand-new unit, and is a simpler model, it is in perfect working order.
All in all, my decision to go with Porter, and with this particular unit, was an excellent one.
