Our Story
Porter Electronics was founded in 2003 in Gilbert, Arizona, after recognizing that many people and organizations still depended on electronics that manufacturers and traditional retailers had stopped supporting.
While technology continues to change, older equipment is still essential for watching family recordings, accessing archived media, maintaining established business systems and completing specialized professional tasks. Replacing an entire system is not always practical—or even possible—when a dependable discontinued product can keep it working.
What began as a way to help customers locate difficult-to-find equipment has grown into a specialized electronics business that has served more than 100,000 customers since 2003. More than 20 years later, our mission remains the same: provide reliable equipment, accurate information and knowledgeable support before and after every purchase.
The Porter Certified Refurbishment Process
Buying discontinued electronics should not mean taking a chance on an untested product. Unlike many marketplace and auction-site listings where equipment is sold as-is, Porter Electronics professionally inspects, services and tests refurbished products before shipment.
Depending on the product and its condition, our refurbishment process may include:
- Internal and external cleaning
- Replacement of worn belts and gears
- Capacitor replacement when needed
- Motor inspection, servicing or replacement
- Cleaning and lubrication of moving components
- Adjustment and calibration
- Cleaning of video and audio heads
- Testing of inputs, outputs, controls and primary functions
- Cosmetic inspection
- Final performance verification and quality control
Because different models have different service requirements, our technicians focus on the components and common failure points specific to each product.
Who We Serve
Porter Electronics serves individuals and organizations that need reliable equipment that may no longer be manufactured, including:
- Families watching or preserving older recordings
- Customers transferring VHS, Hi8, MiniDV and other media
- Businesses maintaining established equipment and systems
- Schools, libraries and government organizations
- Medical, legal and professional offices
- Collectors and vintage-electronics enthusiasts
- Customers replacing a specific discontinued model
If you are uncertain which product will work with your tapes, media, speakers, television or existing system, our team is available to help before you order.
Carefully Packaged for Safe Delivery
Older electronics often contain sensitive mechanical components that require more protection than an ordinary shipment.
Every order is carefully prepared using durable shipping boxes and protective cushioning materials. Larger electronics are surrounded by substantial padding to help protect the product throughout the shipping process and ensure it arrives ready to use.
90-Day Exchange Warranty
We stand behind the refurbished products we sell. Eligible purchases include our 90-day exchange warranty, giving you added protection and confidence after your order arrives.
Optional extended protection plans may also be available on qualifying products.
Support From People Who Know the Equipment
Our relationship with customers does not end when an order ships. The Porter Electronics support team can assist with:
- Product and compatibility questions
- Initial setup
- Installation guidance
- Connection questions
- Troubleshooting
- General product operation
Because we specialize in older and discontinued electronics, we understand many of the questions that arise when connecting legacy equipment to newer televisions, speakers, computers and other devices.
Better for Your Needs—and the Environment
Extending the useful life of quality electronics helps reduce electronic waste and the environmental impact associated with manufacturing replacement equipment.
Choosing a professionally refurbished product can also allow you to continue using existing tapes, accessories, software and systems without the expense and disruption of replacing everything around them.
